Personal Medical Care
Stay Healthy During Your Trip!
CPC recommends a hepatitis "A" vaccination, typhoid fever vaccination, and an up-to-date tetanus shot! Please review this with your personal physician.
Your Health Coordinator will have a first aid kit and will be familiar with indigenous health problems, the location of the hospital and emergency procedures.
Please keep him/her informed of any illnesses, problems or needs that you may have. Prevention and early treatment are critical.
The Health Coordinator will prepare an oral rehydration drink each day. Please drink this often.
It will be the Health Coordinator's responsibility to see to it that everyone drinks enough fluids. He/she will have the responsibility and ultimate authority to ask someone to stop working, rest or seek medical care if in his/her opinion that is called for. CPC staff will closely monitor this!
Your Health Coordinator will not be providing you with Gatorade or soft drinks. These beverages have large quantities of sugar and caffeine. With the tremendous amount of fluids that you need to consume, too much sugar would be put into your body, which actually dehydrates you. If you feel weak or develop a headache, however, a small amount of Gatorade cut half with water is recommended.
If you take any medication on a regular basis, please be sure that your Health Coordinator knows about it and where you keep it.
