    Piedras Negras, Mexico Update

Please scroll down for our Homepage

    Thursday June 4, 2009

Dear CPC Friends and Group Leaders, so much has happened in the last couple of weeks.  Here is the happy update.

On May 22nd our # 600th house was dedicated.   It was a great celebration.  See below for more information about the house and group that sponsored it.

    ---------------

Also on May 22nd house # 601 was dedicated.  This house is for a single mother with four children.  She had always dreamed of having a home of her own, but never thought it would come true.

This house was sponsored by Darlington Presbyterian Church from Darlington, SC.  We missed having them with us this year and hope they will be able to return next year.

Thank you Darlington P.C. and Steve Maguire who led this team's efforts.

    ---------------

On May 29th house # 602 was dedicated.  This house is for a young couple with two small boys who are so excited about having room to run and plan in their new home.  The mother's name is Dulce which means "sweet" and she is.

This house was sponsored by Glen Leven Presbyterian Church from Nashville, TN.  Glen Leven has been with us for years and we missed them this year.  We hope to see them next year.

Thank you Glen Leven P.C. and Robin Bryan who led this team's efforts.

Dear CPC Friends and Group Leaders, we have begun construction on our 600th house which is the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, North Carolina's house.  Their member, Seth O'Dell, is on staff with us and representing his church in the construction and will take a major part in the dedication.

The family has a delightful 18 year old young man, Carlos, who suffers from seizures.  The family is so pleased to be able to finally have a safe home for him.

Thank you Greensboro P.C. and Ann Hendricks who led this team's efforts.

    ------------------------------------------

Earlier this week, we visited with a family who received their house many years ago.  They have raised several healthy children in their home.  The pecan tree, that we planted at the dedication ceremony, is bearing nuts and I was told that they sell the nuts in the winter as a wonderful way to increase they income.

such encouraging news - it reminds me of the saying about teaching someone how to fish instead of just giving him fish.

God Bless all of you who make these blessings possible.

Dear CPC Friends and Group Leaders, we are now in Piedras Negras, MX.  There are no cases of the flu in the entire state and it is calm here in the city - no evidence of military.

Last night we met with the families and assured them that their homes will be built.  We told the families that we will need their help and asked them to bring their cousins, sibling, and friends, etc.  We also asked the families to all help in the construction of  their each other`s houses.  Today we are cutting the rebar and will begin the actual construction on Monday.

Now that we, again, have access to computers, we will try to keep you updated.

Thank you for your love, prayers and support during this difficult time.

Welcome to the Official Web Site of Constructores Para Cristo (CPC).

We are a not-for-profit, incorporated, faith-based organization based in Birmingham, Alabama and working in Northern Mexico. Our mission is two-fold:

  •  FIRST: CPC seeks to provide basic housing, medical care and education for poor, working Mexican families who often live in desperate conditions.
  • SECOND: CPC offers groups and churches in the United States and Canada week-long, international, short-term mission work/retreats in Mexico.
  • The groups are encouraged to be intergenerational, although that is not a requirement. Youth groups are welcome with a ratio of two adults to one youth. The work is such that there is a place for everyone: men and women of all ages and skill levels. Housing is provided in a clean, air conditioned motel in Mexico that is well-known to us (photo at right).

Under CPC supervision, each group builds and dedicates a three-room, concrete block house. The family that will occupy the house works with the group and also provides a small portion of the cost
